California-based Obsidian Entertainment, Inc. produces video games for the American market. It was established by former Black Isle Studios workers Feargus Urquhart, Chris Avellone, Chris Parker, Darren Monahan, and Chris Jones in June 2003, just before the studio’s collapse.

Many of their games are sequels based on licensed properties, even if they have produced original intellectual property. Early initiatives included the sequels to games created by BioWare, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, and Neverwinter Nights 2.

The group then created Alpha Protocol in 2010 as their debut original game. Other noteworthy creations by Obsidian include the licensed video games Fallout: New Vegas, Dungeon Siege III, and South Park: The Stick of Truth.

Did obsidian get bought by Microsoft?

Yes, Microsoft bought Obsidian in 2018. Obsidian Entertainment has evolved into one of the primary first-party studios for the Xbox publisher since it was acquired by Microsoft in 2018.

It now appears that Microsoft wasn’t the only business interested in buying the Fallout: New Vegas developer.
