When users and devices access the RD Session Host, the Remote Desktop Services license server issues client access licenses (CALs) to them. Using the Remote Desktop Licensing Manager, you can activate the license server.

How do I activate my Remote Desktop license?

  • Click Start > Administrative Tools > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Licensing Manager to launch the Remote Desktop Licensing Manager.
  • Click Activate Server from the shortcut menu when you right-click the licensing server.
  • On the welcome page, select Next.
  • Select Automatic connection (preferred) for the connection method, and then click Next.
  • Click Next after providing your company information (your name, the firm name, and your location).
  • Click Next after entering any other firm details (such as company addresses and email addresses).
  • Click Next after making sure that the option to launch the license installation wizard right now is not checked (the licenses will be installed later).

Now that licenses can be issued and managed, your license server is prepared.
