The Pokémon Trading Card Game is a strategy-based card game often played on a dedicated play-mat in which two players (assumed to be Pokémon trainers) engage in combat with their respective Pokémon.

In order to attack their opponent’s Pokémon, each player sends one Pokémon onto the playing field. “Knocked Out” refers to a Pokémon that has taken enough damage from attacks to reach or exceed its HP.

Although some unique card mechanics can provide up to 2 or 3 Prize cards in accordance with their higher hierarchy, the winner receives 1 Prize Card for each of the opponent’s “Knocked Out” Pokémon. Prize cards are the main requirement for winning, and having six of them results in an immediate victory.

Other ways to win include “Knocking Out” every Pokémon the opponent has on their Bench (the line of fighting Pokémon behind the Active Spot that contains five additional Pokémon to replace the Active Pokémon if it retreats or is “Knocked Out”) so the opponent has no Pokémon left, or if at the opponent’s turn there are no cards left to draw into their deck.
