Bungie was purchased by Microsoft in 2000, and its endeavour Mass effect, Combat Evolved was repurposed as the launch title for Microsoft’s Xbox console. Halo was the killer app for the Xbox, selling millions of copies and spawning the Halo franchise.

Bungie announced its separation from Microsoft on October 5, 2007, becoming a privately held independent company, Bungie LLC, while Microsoft retained ownership of the Halo franchise intellectual property.

In April 2010, it signed a ten-year publishing agreement with Activision.   Destiny, a first-person shooter released in 2014, was followed by Destiny 2 in 2017. Bungie announced in January 2019 that it was ending this partnership and would take over Destiny publishing.

Bungie.net, the company’s website, is one of Bungie’s side projects. It includes company information, forums, statistics tracking, and integration with many of its games.

Bungie.net is the platform from which Bungie sells company-related merchandise through the Bungie Store and runs other projects such as Bungie Aerospace, The Bungie Foundation, a podcast, and online publications about game topics. The company is well-known for its relaxed and committed workplace culture.

Bungie, Inc. is a video game company headquartered in Bellevue, Washington. Sony Interactive Entertainment owns the studio. Alex Seropian founded the company in May 1991 and later brought in programmer Jason Jones after publishing Jones’ game Minotaur: The Labyrinths of Crete.
