On July 9, 2020, Canon officially unveiled the CanonEOS R5, a full-frame mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, along with the lower-resolution EOS R6 and several new RF mount lenses.
Although it is not a straight replacement for any of Canon’s earlier mirrorless cameras, the DIGIC X engine and sensor, 8K video capture, a new autofocus system, and the ability to capture 10-bit color films are all significant enhancements and advantages over the EOS R. The Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens is optionally available for purchase along with the camera body.
What does the R in Canon R5 stand for?
In the early stages of development, terms beginning with ‘R’ sparked the idea of redefining EOS once more and ‘to revive,’ according to Canon in a translated interview. However, none of those were what they decided on; instead, they settled with the R, which stands for “Re-imagined.”
