In June 2003, Chris Avellone, Chris Parker, Darren Monahan, Feargus Urquhart, and Chris Jones launched Obsidian Entertainment, Inc. which is an American role-playing video game development studio based in Irvine, California.
As soon as it was established, the studio required additional funding to maintain operations, requiring publisher’s sponsorships, first, they contacted Electronic Arts but nothing came of it. To create a Might & Magic game, the studio also contacted Ubisoft.
However, Ubisoft ultimately decided to work with Arkane Studios on that project, which became Dark Messiah of Might & Magic. Future bright, a Fallout-inspired game powered by the Neverwinter Nights engine, was the title of a game that Obsidian proposed to Take-Two Interactive. Futureblight was a never-made project, much like the EA and Ubisoft initiatives.
