Which Canon EOS R to buy

what-does-the-r-in-canon-r5-stand-for

The Canon EOS R is a full-frame mirrorless camera launched in 2018 that uses the RF mount. Both the EF Mount DSLR system and the EOS M APS-C-only mirrorless system were replaced by the Canon EOS R mirrorless camera system. It is designed with a Dual Pixel CMOS 30 MP sensor and is intended for a new model of RF lenses. In comparison to EF and EF-S mounts, RF lenses allow for quicker communication between the camera and lens.

Following the release of the EOS R, Canon released the EOS RP in February 2019, the EOS R5 and R6 in July 2020, and the EOS R3 in September 2021. Canon introduced the R10 and R7, the first APS-C cameras for the EOS R system, in 2022.
