Israeli entrepreneur Dmitry Bukhman who was born in Russia established Playrix together with his brother Igor Bukhman.

In 2001, Igor and Dmitry Bukhman began developing their first game – Discovera, which was launched later that year. In 2004, while enrolled in the Vologda State Pedagogical Institute, they founded Playrix. By 2004, the brothers had produced 3 games and about 30 screensavers.

Later in 2007, there were 16 games available, and the company was bringing in about $300,000. Games like Homescapes, Gardenscapes, Fishdom, and Township were later released by the company.

According to researcher AppAnnie, Playrix has overtaken Tencent Holdings Ltd. as the top mobile game developer in the world.
