The setting of a network service that prohibits requests from hosts with specific IP addresses is known as IP address blocking, also known as IP banning. Blocking IP addresses is frequently used to defend against brute force attacks and to bar access from disruptive addresses.

IP address blocking can be used to prevent access to or from a certain location, such as when content is syndicated to a location using Internet geolocation and blocking.

Using a host’s file, IP address blocking is achievable on many computers. IP address blocking is frequently implemented by TCP wrappers in Unix-like operating systems.

While account bans are usually permanent, temporary IP bans can last anywhere from 7 to 30 days. Players who have been temporarily banned from the Battle Bus can reboard after the allotted time has passed (up to 30 days).

In Fortnite, permanent bans are unrevocable and are handed out in situations like when a player is found to be cheating.
