Apple Inc. creates a brand of smartwatch known as the Apple Watch. It has cellular phone capabilities, fitness tracking capabilities, and health-related features. It links to iOS and other Apple services and devices.

The Apple Watch quickly established itself as the most popular wearable gadget after its April 2015 launch. In the second quarter of the fiscal year 2015, 4.2 million devices were sold, and by the end of 2020, it’s expected that over 100 million people will own an Apple Watch.

Every September, with a few exceptions, Apple has introduced a new model of the Apple Watch with improved internal components. Apple uses the term “Series” to describe each iteration.

For some data-dependent tasks, such as basic communication and audio streaming, the Apple Watch may independently connect to a Wi-Fi network. For functions like personalizing the watch and synchronizing data with iPhone apps, the user’s iPhone typically works in conjunction with the Apple Watch.

LTE-equipped models considerably reduce the need for an iPhone by instantly connecting to a mobile network for talking, texting, and data consumption for downloaded mobile apps after initial setup. The paired iPhone must still be turned on and connected to a cellular network in order to make a call, even though it is not necessary for it to be close to the watch.

Can I use my Apple Watch without my phone?

Yes, you certainly can. When your iPhone is off or out of reach, your Apple Watch may send and receive data over a Wi-Fi network. Your watch can connect to a cellular network if it is a cellular model. In addition, if you’ve set up an Apple Watch for a family member, they can use the watch to access the internet or a cellular network.

When your Apple Watch is connected to the internet, the Wi-Fi icon shows in Control Center. When it is associated with cellular, the cellular icon shows.
