In order to better protect children, Snapchat is introducing a new parental control feature that, according to the company, mirrors real-world interactions between parents and teenagers.

Can parents see what you say on Snapchat?

The Family Center parental control tools allow parents to view their children’s friend lists and the people with whom they have communicated during the previous week, but they are unable to view the messages’ contents.

“Introducing Family Center, our new in-app tools for parents and their teens on Snapchat. Designed to reflect the dynamics of real-world relationships, we want to empower parents to make online safety a priority — while protecting teens’ privacy,” the company said on Twitter.

The updated feature demands parental and kid’s approval for monitoring. Parents who have been granted access to their kid’s accounts can view a list of their kid’s connections and report any unusual activity.

However, this new update would not inform parents of any new Snapchat accounts a child might have as created.
