The Nintendo Switch video game console’s primary game controller are known as Joy-Con. They are made up of two separate units, each with an analogue stick and a set of buttons.

They can be used while connected to the main Nintendo Switch console unit, or they can be detached and used wirelessly; when detached, a pair of Joy-Con can be used by a single player, or they can be divided between two as individual controllers.

The controllers have been chastised for the analogue sticks’ proclivity to register inputs even when not touched, a phenomenon known as drift.

Joy-Con controllers can be attached to the sides of the Switch console via rails, or they can be detached and used wirelessly either as a pair like a Wii Remote and Joystick, or divided between two different players. A single Switch console can support up to 8 Joy-Con at the same time.

The Joy-Con can be attached to a “Joy-Con Grip” accessory, which can be charged or not, to convert the controllers to a more traditional gamepad-like form factor.
