Apple has added compatibility for the original Apple Pencil in its brand-new iPad Air. The first-generation Pencil has a Lightning connector on top, behind a detachable (and, to be honest, easily lost) cover.
Simply put the Pencil’s connection into the iPad Air’s Lightning port, then press “Pair” when asked on your iPad, and you’re ready to go. The Pencil will then be Bluetooth-connected to the iPad.
The Lighting connection is also used to charge the Apple Pencil. When not in use, connect it to your iPad Air to charge the Pencil.
The Pencil also comes with a Lightning adaptor, which has two Lightning connectors, one for plugging in a Lightning cable and the other for plugging in your Apple Pencil. This way, the Pencil can charge without sticking out of your iPad Air.
