The game was first made public in Windows Vista build 5219. Microsoft Entertainment Pack 4 included another chess program called simply Chess. David Norris, a former Microsoft employee and author of the chess engine Stone structure, created it.
With its glass-like view, the game is fully animated and designed for Windows Aero. The game includes a photorealistic board that can be rotated in 3D, as well as themes for the chess pieces and board. It demonstrates Vista’s 3D capabilities.
