Irvine, California-based Obsidian Entertainment, Inc. produces video games for the American market. It was established by former Black Isle Studios workers Feargus Urquhart, Chris Avellone, Chris Parker, Darren Monahan, and Chris Jones in June 2003, just before the studio’s collapse.
As we move beyond 2023 and beyond, three new Obsidian games are presently under production and are among our most highly awaited Xbox Series X games. With two sizable open-world RPGs and a creative narrative adventure game in development, this studio will be one to watch in the ensuing years.
Because of this, Obsidian made the decision to crowdfund their following title, Pillars of Eternity, an isometric role-playing game that ultimately became successful and prevented the studio from going out of business.
Following that, the group’s focus shifted from making licensed games to making original games based on the studio’s own intellectual property, including a Pillars of Eternity sequel.
