One of my favourite gaming laptops of 2021 is the Lenovo Legion 5. It’s been a few years since I worked on a Legion gaming laptop, as I’ve always associated Lenovo with Think Pads for business or school use, similar to how Dell’s were back in the day.
As a result, I never thought of it as a contender in the gaming laptop market.
For only $1,650, the Legion 5 Pro configuration that arrived for review was pretty stacked. However, the SSD is only 512GB, which is a bit small given how large game installations are becoming. When it comes to hard drive size vs. overall cost, it’s a difficult decision to make, but an SSD can always be upgraded.
The 16-inch QHD IPS display is worth mentioning right away because it’s a wildly bright and colourful 500 nits IPS panel that’s a dream to use for both work and play.
Is Legion a gaming laptop?
The Lenovo Legion 5 is an impressive gaming laptop with high-end components throughout, but it will have to work hard when pitted against some formidable competitors.
