On the 23rd anniversary of its release, Windows 95 is now available for free download for devices running Windows, macOS, or Linux. Its size is roughly 130MB, which is not bad, and when it runs on a modern PC, it uses about 200MB of RAM.

Additionally, it is referred to as “Windows 95 V 1.0,” which suggests that there would be additional releases.

The famous Space Cadet Pinball is not included in this software-as-an-app edition, but the majority of the other content is. The ancient, original version of Internet Explorer that is part of this release cannot access the Web, but that’s okay. It has so many security flaws, which is probably for the best.

According to Design Museum, the first run of the album sold seven million copies in just five weeks. At full pricing, that amounts to nearly $1.5 billion in earnings. Microsoft had budgeted $300 million for marketing and advertising, so it makes sense.
