Companies use DeviantArt to promote themselves and create more advertising through contests due to the nature of DeviantArt as an art community with a global reach.

CoolClimate is a research network affiliated with the University of California that held a competition in 2012 to address the effects of climate change. There were submissions from all over the world, and the winner was featured in The Huffington Post.

Several automobile manufacturers have held competitions. In 2012, Dodge held a contest for the art of the Dodge Dart, and over 4,000 submissions were received.  Following value cash and prizes, their work was displayed in a gallery at Dodge-Chrysler headquarters.

In 2013, Lexus collaborated with DeviantArt to hold a contest for cash and other prizes based on their Lexus IS design; the winner’s design became a modified Lexus IS and was displayed at the SEMA 2013 show in Los Angeles, California.

What happened DeviantArt?

DeviantArt began as a website for people who took computer applications and modified them to their liking, or who posted applications based on the original designs.

As the site grew in popularity, members, in general, were referred to as artists, and submissions were referred to as arts.
