What is RDS broker?

The session-based applications and desktops you share with users are stored on the Remote Desktop Session Host (RD Session Host). Through one of the Remote Desktop clients, which are available for Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android, users can access these desktops and applications.

The web client allows users to connect via a supported web browser as well.

Desktops and programs can be arranged into one or more “collections” of RD Session Host servers. These collections can be tailored for particular user groups throughout each tenant.

For instance, you can designate a group of users to have access to a collection of apps, but anyone outside of that group won’t be able to use those apps.

Applications can be installed directly on the RD Session Host servers for small deployments. We advise creating a base image for larger deployments and creating virtual machines from that image.

Incoming remote desktop connections to RD Session Host server farms are managed by Remote Desktop Connection Broker (RD Connection Broker). Both connections to collections of complete desktops and connections to collections of remote apps are handled by RD Connection Broker.
