Terminal Server Licensing is a client licensing management solution offered by the Windows Server 2003 operating system family. For devices and users connected to a terminal server, this solution enables terminal servers to acquire and manage Terminal Server client access licenses (TS CALs).

Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition, Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition, and Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition all have Terminal Server Licensing as a component service.

It supports terminal servers running both the Windows Server 2003 and Windows 2000 operating systems, and it can manage unlicensed, temporarily licensed, and client-access approved clients.

This significantly reduces under or over-purchasing of licenses for an organization while drastically simplifying the system administrator’s license management process. Only Terminal Server and not the Remote Desktop for Administration uses Terminal Server Licensing.
