Nintendo created and released Splatoon, a 2015 third-person shooter video game, for the Wii U. The protagonists of the game are Inklings, anthropomorphic cephalopod lifeforms that can switch between human and cephalopod forms.
They frequently engage in territorial disputes with one another and use a variety of humanoid-form weapons that produce and shoot coloured ink or swim and hide on cephalopod-form surfaces covered in their own coloured ink.
Splatoon offers a variety of game types, such as single-player campaigns and four-on-four online multiplayer.
The competitive multiplayer ink-based territory control game that served as the inspiration for Splatoon’s original design was created by Nintendo’s Entertainment Analysis & Development team.
Later updates added squid and the ability to swim through ink. Lead programmer Shintaro Sato, who had previously worked on games in the Animal Crossing series, came up with the idea.

Splatoon 3 is scheduled to go on sale on September 9, 2022, and pre-orders are now being taken. As a result, the game will initially only be accessible via the Nintendo Switch.
To participate in the inky fun, PlayStation and Xbox users will need to purchase one of Nintendo’s hybrid systems.
