Most of us appreciate how snugly our AirPods fit into our ears while allowing us to perform our day to day activities. It also doesn’t hurt that they are quite durable and have battery capacity that can make them last for a while.

However, Experts say that AirPods and earbuds are often overlooked when it comes to routine cleaning, and this can increase health risks to the user since the dirty pod is inserted right back in the ear for a copious amount of time.

Do AirPods cause wax to build up?

Excess earwax, ear pain, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), and fungal and yeast infections are all potential consequences or risks associated with not cleaning your earbuds.

To prevent this, you’re encouraged to clean and disinfect the AirPods piece and any silicone attachments to remove accumulated earwax and kill potentially harmful bacteria stuck on them.

Though earwax is natural and even helps protect the ears, it can easily get stuck in earbuds and create a breeding ground for germs to grow which can adversely affect your ears.

Again, when using your AirPods all day, be sure to take breaks not just to allow your ears to breathe and calm down but also to allow some ventilation around your AirPods.
