Though Apple’s AirTag is great when paired with an iPhone that is compatible with it, you do not need an iPhone with the U1 chip (the iPhone 11 or iPhone 12) or other iOS compatible updated iPhone, in order to use AirTags.
However, if you do have one, you have the advantage of being able to use a feature called Precision Finding. This helps you find your AirTag using the Find My feature embedded in your iPhone.
With that, it uses the accelerometer, cameras, and other embedded technology to direct you to the exact location of your AirTag especially if it’s nearby. A pointer would appear on the screen to show the direction and distance which is quite convenient.
You can equally use your AirTag with your iPads, MacBooks and iPod Touch, not just your iPhone. All these devices can work perfectly to support your Airtags and help you find the items that it’s attached to without any hassle.
The only downside to this incredible device from apple is that AirTags do not come with any magnetic or sticky side to attach to your device, even though they cost like $29. In fact, buying a keychain or holder for your AirTag is probably more expensive than buying the AirTag itself. Aside from this, it’s a great device to help you track your items.
