Have you ever wondered how you can hear music in your head even if it is not playing from an audio device?

At one point in everyone’s life, you could hear music playing but it is not actually playing from a music box or any device. The question one may ask is, how is this possible?

How can you hear music in your head?

This is the creation of the brain! Surprised?? When you hear music playing in your head, it is a result of using your musical imagination. This skill is technically called audiation.

Audiation serves as the starting point for being able to create your own music. The inner ear translates vibrations into electrical signals. The electronic signals are carried into the brain’s nerve cells. These cells are called neurons through the cochlear nerve system.

The signals travel along with the cochlear nerve system to the brain’s cerebral cortex. Other areas of the brain add their power to analyze different elements within the music, such as the rhythm, pitch, and dynamics.

It is amazing how some people have the ability to remember music regardless of how long in terms of duration they have heard the song. They are able to recognize their favourite song just by hearing a few lines of it. These amazing memories are stored in the hippocampus.
