Apple watches were made to be an extension of the iPhones. They are meant to bring more portability and accessibility to the use of iPhone devices. Apple watches were released in 2015, starting with the Apple watch series 1.

At this time, the Apple watch came with Bluetooth 4.0 and a WiFi built-in system that allows the watch to get connected to the iPhone and also help to push notifications to the Apple watch. Therefore, in this era, the iPhone has to be within a Bluetooth (10 meters away) or WiFi range in order to get the notifications on the Apple watch.

This was the case until the release of the cellular connections for the Apple watches. This started from the Apple watch series 3 devices. With this new component added to the Apple watch, the range of operation between an Apple watch and its’ iPhone became almost infinite.

The watch and the iPhone can now remain connected even if the iPhone is out of Bluetooth and wifi range using the cellular connection. The only time that there will be a break in the connection between the devices is when you are in a place with no cellular network connection.

How far can the Apple Watch be from the iPhone?

For the current Apple watches, thus from Series 3 to latex release, your iPhone can be as far away from your Apple Watch as your cellular connection can go.

Since the Apple series 1 and series 2 are no longer in production, this leaves us to a conclusion that the Apple watch can be far from its paired device as the cellular network is available.

In another case, if you’re not planning to use the Apple watch for pushing your iPhone’s notification, then there is no need to worry about the range of operations. You can get other cool features without an iPhone paired with the Apple watch device.
