Decentraland is a 3D virtual world browser-based platform that allows users to buy virtual plots of land on the platform as NFTs via the MANA cryptocurrency. The MANA cryptocurrency uses the Ethereum blockchain. Decentraland was opened to the public in February 2020 by the nonprofit Decentraland Foundation. Its purpose was to incentivize a global network of users to operate a shared virtual world. As already mentioned Decentraland users can buy and sell digital real estate, while exploring the virtual world, interacting with others and playing games within this virtual world. Decentraland is one of many metaverse efforts, and can be accessed via a desktop browser.
