Should I shut my phone off at night? Smartphones unlike telephones have a lot of features and applications that help us execute a lot of tasks and also stay updated with current happenings in the world. As much as this is a good thing it can often be a menace and overwhelming for individuals.

Individuals sometimes resort to switching off their phones at night to escape from the world and release stress. Some individuals with jobs that are demanding and have them working intensely during the day often turn off their phones after work to avoid the unnecessary calls and messages from their friends, families, work colleagues and their social media.

A study conducted by Lancet Psychiatry in 2018 shows that 1 out 5 individuals receive their information from social media compared to the radio or television and scrolling though series of bad news on social media can affect individual’s mental health such as triggering their anxiety and depression.

Shutting off your phone at night can also help you maintain strong battery health. We find ourselves constantly charging our phones so we can carry out our daily activities. After a long day, shutting down your phone will give the battery some time to rejuvenate and not lose its vitality quickly.

We currently live in a world full of devices that emit radiation we are completely surrounded by them. Switching off your phone after a long day will give you some break from exposure to these radiations. Over exposure to radiation can pose some health hazards such as headaches, cancer etc.
