What happens to your old SIM card when you get a new one? SIM cards allow you to store essential information like names and contacts of friends and family. Asides from that, they are linked to a network service provider that can give you access to calls, texts and browsing data to help you stay connected to friends and family basically have fun.

Ideally, one may choose to use the same SIM card for years, even their entire life. But what happens if you decide to change your SIM card?

What Happens To Your Old Sim Card When You Get A New One?

You will most likely lose Contacts and messages stored in the previous SIM card which will not be in the new SIM card.

Any other settings you have done and saved on the old SIM card such as grouping favourites, sorting friends and family contacts under a common group name will also get lost.

After a couple of months, about 3 -6 months depending on the carrier service provider you are using, your sim will be deactivated. After a while, your number may actually be given out to another person.

They will not have access to your personal details after your number is given out though. Everything will be wiped clean. Just remember to inform your friends and associates about the change so they know not to call that number.
