What is * 73 on your phone?

If you have been using a cellphone with service subscription for a while, you may have come across some codes. These codes offer various additional services to make your use of your mobile device easier. One of these codes is *73.

What does *73 do on your phone?

Call forwarding or call diversion as it sometimes appears,  is a telephone feature of all telephone switching systems which serves to redirect a telephone call to another destination, perhaps another mobile or another telephone number where the desired called party is available. Call forwarding typically can redirect incoming calls to any other domestic telephone number, but you, the owner of the forwarded line may be charged extra for that service. Call forwarding, as a telephone feature, is often enabled when you dial *72 followed by the telephone number to which calls should be forwarded. Call forwarding is disabled by dialing *73. *72 diverts your calls to a different device, and makes it possible to receive calls on multiple mobile devices, which would be easier for you, especially if you do not want to be using multiple numbers, but *73 disables any of that, allowing your calls to appear on only one device.
