After the discovery of computers, there came the need to feed these computers with data in the form of numbers, alphabets, and symbols. The only convenient way to accomplish this at the time was through typing.
Institutions began training individuals to become experts at typing. In a garage in Sharman, Oaks California, Norm Worthington and his friends teamed up to develop a computer program that could teach anyone how to type with convincing.
In 1987, the computer program Mavis Beacon teaches typing was released for the purpose of teaching and learning typing. It is with no doubt, the Mavis Beacon program has achieved its goal as generations learnt typing through this program.
As a product of The Software Tool works, Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, a software and video game was originally founded in 1980 in Sherman Oaks, California and now headquartered in Novato were revised versions with improved interface and features are being developed.
