In September of 1945, a small workshop popped up in a war-damaged apartment store in Tokyo.

The place was runned by a man maned Masaru Ibuka. He had a hand full of staff and one month later, Ibuka and his group established the Tokyo Telecommunication Research Institute.

At first, they had no idea what they were doing.

They started with the modification of radios to tune into any station of choice during the war era.

The name of the shop got the attention of a man named Akio Morita. Ibuka and Morita worked together after the war and later change the name of the company to Sony, what we know today.

Sony’s first product was manufactured as an electric rice cooker due to the abundance of rice at the time.

This product was deemed a failure because it either overcooked or undercooled the rice.

Their next project which was a self-warming blanket also ended as a failure.

Later, they took on the opportunity to create a portable radio and this became the starting point of the rise of the Totsuko company now called Sony because the world’s population could not mention the name Totsuko.

The name was changed in 1955.
