Valve was founded by two former workers of Microsoft on August 24, 1996 in Kirkland, Washington, the United States by Gabe Newell and Mike Harrington. The company has its headquarters in Bellevue, Washington.

Valve’s first game was a first-person shooter game known as Half-Life made in 1998. It was a commercial success. In 2000, Mike Harrington left Valve Corp. Then, a year later, Valve launched Steam, a distribution platform and Half-Life 2 in 2003.

Valve’s revenue comes from its distribution platform, Steam. It controlled at least 50-70% of the online PC game market in 2011 and had an estimation of $3.4 billion in 2017. In 2012, Valve employed about 250 people and became profitable with over $3 billion.

Valve operates with a flat structure where employees choose what work to do on themselves. They also develop games through the testing of games and loops(repetition of codes).

Valve has over 360 employees and total equity of 10 billion US Dollars.
