SpaceX is a privately funded American aerospace manufacturer which provides space transportation services and satellite internet services through its satellite internet sub, Starlink.

The company is based in Hawthorne, California. It was founded in 2002 with the aim of reducing the cost of space transportation and paving the way for space exploration and the eventual colonization of other planets, particularly Mars.

Among others, SpaceX has manufactured Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launch vehicles, several rocket engines, Cargo Dragon, and crew spacecraft.

SpaceX also holds the title for a lot of firsts, including being the first to design a liquid-propellant rocket that can be launched into the Earth’s orbit. The rocket was privately funded.

Again, it is the first private company that has successfully launched, orbited and recovered a spacecraft.

Who started SpaceX?

SpaceX was formed by the illustrious entrepreneur Elon Musk. He had high hopes of revolutionizing the aerospace industry and making affordable spaceflight a reality.
