Even though this might seem like a shenanigan to get you to purchase a new phone, it’s not. They just want you to stay on the network and enjoy the various services that they have to offer, including 5G, without any hassle. Older models of phones may not support these services anymore, requiring that they alert you to change your phone.
Even better, you will not lose your current plan, data or minutes when you do decide to purchase a new phone. The current data or minutes will just be transferred to your new device. You will not even know you’ve changed your phone, except of course the faster processing and data transfer.
