If you use an older model of phone, unfortunately, that fear is quite real and founded. You may lose all your messages because, for older models of phones, I’m talking before 2012 models, messages were stored on the SIM card and not on the phones devices.
However, if you happen to use a relatively new model of smartphone, you have no need to worry, your old text messages are safe and sound and would not disappear if you remove your SIM card. The only thing you will lose is the connection to your network provider.
You may not receive any new messages on your iMessage or social media applications that allow texting unless you connect to another network source, perhaps WiFi.
If you don’t have access to another network source, your phone will keep the message delayed for about 3 days, depending on the carrier service you use. After that period you lose those new messages.
