Starlink is a unique technology that uses satellites to enable video calls, browse, game and perform all other functions requiring a high powered internet service.

Even though it is not as fast as cable or fiber, Starlink is still fast enough, faster than 5G even.

Starlink is available in select areas of the US, UK and Canada. The company seeks to target and provide services to people in remote areas that may not be reachable for other forms of internet service.

A monthly subscription costs $99. However, you would be required to make a one-time payment of $499 for the Starlink kit.

Will Starlink require a dish?

Like other satellite services, Starlink requires the use of a dish to operate. This is provided as part of the Starlink kit for all users.

Satellite internet like Starlink technology use satellites to bounce internet signals into and out of space. At each ground location involved in the transfer of signals, there must be a satellite dish to send and receive those signals.

Your satellite dish processes the data packets emitted by your computer, smartphone, or other devices and transfers them up to the Starlink satellite constellation that consists of thousands of satellites.

And then, when data packets are sent to you, you will need your satellite dish to receive the signal and forward the information to your devices. Basically, without a satellite dish, you cannot use Starlink.
